Buying Signals Hiding in Your Comments (and How to Turn Them Into Sales)
"price?" is not a lazy comment. It is a customer with their wallet half out. Here is how to spot buying signals in your comments and DMs, and what to say next.

Scroll through the comments on any product post and you will find people trying to give you money. They just do not phrase it that way. They write “price?”, “do you ship to Dubai?” or “is the black one back?” and then, if nobody answers, they leave.
Those comments are buying signals. Treat them like leads, because that is what they are.
The buying signal ladder
Not every question carries the same intent. It helps to picture a ladder, with curiosity at the bottom and a ready buyer at the top.

- Curious: “Love this, what is it?” Interest, but no decision yet.
- Evaluating: “What fabric is it?”, “Is it true to size?” They are picturing owning it.
- Checking logistics: “Do you ship to Pune?”, “How long does delivery take?” They have mostly decided.
- Ready: “Price?”, “How do I order?”, “Do you have it in XL?”, “I need three for a wedding.” Answer now or lose them.
The higher the rung, the faster you need to reply and the more personal the reply should be.
Phrases that signal intent
Build a list of the phrases your customers actually use. Common ones include:
- price, cost, how much, rate
- available, in stock, restock, back in
- size, sizes, XL, fit
- ship to, delivery, COD, cash on delivery
- order, buy, link, DM me, details
- bulk, wholesale, for my team, for a wedding
Language matters here. If you sell across the Gulf or South Asia, your buyers may write in Arabic, Hindi, Urdu or a mix of scripts. Your list should cover those too.
Reply scripts that move people forward
The goal of a public reply is to answer quickly and move the conversation to a place where you can close it.
“Price?”
Hi Ravi! This one is 2,499. We have just sent you a DM with the link and sizes.
If you can, answer the price publicly. Hiding prices behind “check DMs” frustrates people and every other reader has the same question.
“Do you ship to my city?”
We do! Delivery to Dubai usually takes 3 to 5 days. Want us to send you the link?
“Is it in stock?”
Yes, sizes S to L are in stock right now. XL is back next week; we can message you the moment it lands.
Bulk or event orders
We would love to help with that. Sending you a DM now so we can sort sizes and timing for all three.
Each one answers the question, adds one useful detail and offers a next step.
Speed is the whole game
A buyer at the top of the ladder will not wait long. If your reply arrives after they have bought from someone else, the best script in the world will not help. Leads should sit at the top of your queue, ahead of praise and general questions. We cover how to set targets for each type of comment in our guide to social media response times.
Route leads to whoever closes them
In a small brand, the person answering comments may also take orders. As you grow, those roles split. Decide where leads go: a sales DM inbox, a WhatsApp number, a CRM or a shared sheet. Then make the handover instant, with the customer’s original message attached so nobody asks them to repeat themselves.
Track what converts
Once a month, look at which kinds of signal turned into orders. You may find delivery questions convert better than price questions, or that one product generates most of the bulk enquiries. That tells you what to answer in your captions before anyone asks, and what to feature in your ads.
Do not lose leads under the noise
The biggest reason brands miss buyers is not bad scripts. It is that the “price?” comment arrived between forty compliments and a spam bot. A clear labelling system, like the one in our moderation playbook, keeps leads visible.
Schedulely flags comments and DMs that ask about price, stock or shipping and sends them to a sales queue automatically, in English, Arabic, Hindi and Urdu. See lead detection.
Frequently asked questions
What is a buying signal on social media?
Any comment or message that shows purchase intent, such as asking about price, stock, sizes, delivery or how to order.
Should brands reply to price questions publicly?
Usually yes. Answering publicly helps everyone with the same question. Move to DMs for links, sizes or order details.
How fast should you reply to a buying signal?
As fast as you can within your coverage hours. Leads should be at the top of your reply queue, ahead of praise and general questions.
