What is the best social media scheduler in 2026?
There is no single best social media scheduler: Buffer is the simplest free start, Metricool gives the most analytics for the money, Publer covers many networks cheaply, Later suits visual creators, and Sprout Social and Hootsuite suit large teams. Schedulely fits agencies and brands whose work centres on Instagram comments and DMs, client approvals and channel based pricing, but it has no analytics, so it is not the pick if reports matter most.
This page is published by Schedulely, so every competitor fact comes from the competitor's own site and links to its source.

Which social media scheduler wins for each kind of user?
Each scheduler wins for a different user. Buffer wins on simplicity, Metricool on analytics for the money, Publer on network range at a low price, Later on visual creator planning, Sprout Social and Hootsuite on large team depth, and Schedulely on Instagram conversations and client approvals priced by channel.
The table below is our honest summary of where each tool is strongest and where it is weakest, based only on what each company publishes and, for Schedulely, on what is built today. It does not rank tools overall, because a solo creator and a 20 person agency need very different things.
Two rules shaped it. First, we only call a tool strong at something its own site supports. Second, we do not give Schedulely credit for features that are not live. Schedulely has no Instagram analytics, no automatic comment to DM, no first comment and no store apps yet, so it does not win any category that depends on them.
If your main need appears in the left column, start with the tool beside it, then check the source links before you sign up. Prices and plan limits change often, and the links take you straight to each company's current pricing page.
| Tool | Strongest at | Weakest at |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer | Simple scheduling with a free plan and mature apps | Deep team workflows on lower plans |
| Metricool | Analytics and many brands at a low price | Comment to DM is paid plans only |
| Publer | Many networks and CSV bulk posting cheaply | No inbox listed |
| Later | Visual planning for creators, plus Snapchat | No free plan; inbox only on higher plans |
| Hootsuite | Broad inbox, automation and reporting suite | Priced per user, no free plan |
| Sprout Social | Reporting and approvals for large teams | Priced per seat, highest cost |
| Schedulely | Instagram inbox, client approvals, channel pricing | No analytics; store apps not live yet |
Where do Buffer, Metricool and Publer win?
Buffer, Metricool and Publer win for budget conscious users because all three have free forever plans. Buffer is the easiest to learn, Metricool gives the deepest analytics and lists comment to DM on paid plans, and Publer supports a long list of networks with CSV bulk posting at a low starting price.
Buffer calls itself "Social media management for everyone". Its free plan gives Yes, free forever: up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, 1 user, 100 ideas, 30 day analytics history, 5 AI reply suggestions per week. It adds Yes, AI Assistant on all plans ('Unlimited credits') and analytics described as Yes; Free has 30 day history, Essentials and Team unlimited history plus custom analytics and reports. Choose Buffer if you want a calm tool that a new teammate can learn in an afternoon.
Metricool offers Yes, free forever: 1 brand, all networks except LinkedIn and X, 20 scheduled posts per month, 30 days analytics, 5 AI credits per brand/month. Its Starter plan is From $25 per month billed monthly or $20 per month billed annually (5 brands); €20 / €16. 10 brands: $45 / $36, and it lists Yes on Starter, Advanced, Custom: Flows incl. 'Turn comments into DMs', 'No extra cost for a limited time'; not on Free. Metricool describes its Starter audience as Starter: "Social media managers, consultants, and small agencies." Advanced: "Marketing agencies, in house teams, and professionals working with clients.". Choose it if you need reports for several brands without a large budget.
Publer offers Yes, free forever: 1 user, 1 workspace, 3 social accounts (no X), 10 scheduled posts per account, 25 drafts, 24 hour post history. It supports Facebook, Instagram, X (paid only), LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, YouTube, WordPress, TikTok, Telegram, Mastodon, Threads, Bluesky, with bulk scheduling listed as Yes, bulk scheduling via CSV listed; bulk scheduling from Professional up.Choose Publer if you post widely and want spreadsheet uploads.
None of the three lists an Instagram comment inbox with lead and complaint labels the way Schedulely builds it, but all three beat Schedulely on analytics. If you mainly want to know which posts performed best, start with one of these three and add a separate inbox only if comments become a problem.
Where do Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Later win?
Hootsuite and Sprout Social win for large teams that need an inbox across many networks, approval workflows and detailed reports, and can pay per user or per seat. Later wins for creators and visual brands who plan Instagram and TikTok first, and it is the only tool here that lists Snapchat.
HootsuiteIts inbox covers Yes, every plan includes the social inbox; comments and DMs across Facebook, Instagram, X, WhatsApp, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads (Threads limited to comments), and it lists Yes, automated Instagram DMs sent when 'a user comments a specific keyword on your post'. It is a fit for teams that want one vendor for publishing, conversations and analytics.
Sprout Social is priced Per seat per month; $ shown, currency not named, from $79 per seat per month billed annually; $99 per seat per month billed monthly; 5 social profiles. It offers Yes, reporting and analytics on all plans; Premium Analytics add on from Standard and approvals described as Yes, 'workflows to guide internal and external team members through approving messages'. It describes its Standard plan as Standard: "Perfect for small teams managing a few profiles across social networks". Professional: "Best for teams handling a lot of profiles with high engagement".. It suits companies with a dedicated social team and budget.
Later describes itself as "Influencer marketing built for creators, trusted by brands, and designed for results.". Its Starter plan is $18.75 USD per month billed yearly; 1 social set (8 profiles), 1 user, and its analytics are Yes; history up to 3 months (Starter), 1 year (Growth), 2 years plus custom analytics (Scale). It suits creators who think in grids and want an AI caption writer.
All three have mature store apps and analytics, which Schedulely does not offer today. If either matters most, one of these is the better choice. The trade off is cost: per user and per seat pricing grows with every person you add, so model the bill for your real team size before you sign an annual contract.
Where does Schedulely win, and where does it fall short?
Schedulely is strongest for agencies and brands that sell or support customers through Instagram comments and DMs and that work with clients. It prices by channel, includes the Instagram inbox on every plan and lets clients approve posts without a login. It falls short on analytics, comment to DM and store apps.
Schedulely is made by SureSocial, a Meta and Google performance marketing agency. What it does today:
- Posts to 14 networks, including Discord and Tumblr, which none of the other six name on the pages we checked.
- An Instagram inbox for comments, DMs and mentions, labelled by simple word rules (Complaint, Lead, Question, Praise, Promotions, Scam and spam), with private replies, saved replies, assignments, round robin and keyword rules.
- Approval links without a login, connect links so nobody shares a password, and client logins.
- A week calendar with a row per client in each client's own time zone, and bulk scheduling from spreadsheet rows.
- Pricing by channel once plans start: $9, $39 or $99 a month. Free during early access.
Where it falls short: no Instagram analytics, no automatic comment to DM, no first comment, no LinkedIn Company Pages, TikTok posts stay private until TikTok finishes its audit, and App Store and Google Play apps are coming but not live.
Is ManyChat a social media scheduler?
No. ManyChat is a DM automation tool, not a post scheduler. It is built for automatic Instagram comment to DM flows, Messenger and WhatsApp conversations. Many brands use ManyChat alongside a scheduler such as Schedulely, Buffer or Later, because the two tools do different jobs.
ManyChat's own pricing page describes its channels as Not a post scheduler. Messaging channels: Instagram DM, Messenger (Free); plus SMS and Email on Pro; WhatsApp named on homepage. It does not advertise publishing or scheduling posts. Its strength is automation: it lists Yes, Instagram comment auto replies that send a DM; keyword triggers (3 on Free, unlimited on Pro), and its free plan gives Yes, $0: up to 1,000 contacts, 10 tags, 2 sequences, 1 team member, 3 keywords. Its Pro plan is From $15 per month for up to 500 contacts, rising with contacts; no annual billing, priced Scaled by number of contacts; Pro billed monthly only; $ shown, currency not named.
That makes it the right tool when your goal is a fast automatic reply to everyone who comments a keyword, for example sending a discount code or a product link by DM. Schedulely does not offer that today. Its private reply is sent by a person, once per comment, and its keyword rules can label, hide, reply in public, assign or notify, but cannot send an automatic DM in answer to a comment.
If you need both, a common setup is a scheduler for publishing and a team inbox, and ManyChat for comment to DM campaigns. Check that the two tools do not reply to the same message twice.
How do you choose a social media scheduler?
Start with the 3 tasks that take you longest each week, then pick the tool that handles those best. Check the networks you post to, the pricing model against your team size and channel count, and whether you need analytics, an inbox or client approvals. Then try your shortlist on real accounts.
A short checklist works better than a feature grid:
- Networks. List every account you post to. Telegram, Discord, Tumblr, Snapchat and Substack are supported by only some tools.
- Pricing model. Per user or per seat pricing suits small teams with many accounts. Per channel pricing suits growing teams with a fixed set of accounts. Count both before comparing.
- Analytics. If you report results to clients or a manager, rule out tools without analytics, including Schedulely.
- Conversations. If you sell or support customers in comments and DMs, look closely at each inbox and which networks it covers.
- Clients. If clients approve posts, check whether they need a paid seat or a login.
- Apps. If you work mainly from a phone, check which store apps exist today.
Most tools here offer a free plan or trial, and Schedulely is free during early access, so test 2 or 3 on the same week of posts before you commit.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
A good fit if you
- Anyone comparing schedulers who wants each tool's strengths stated plainly
- Agencies weighing per seat against per channel pricing
- Brands deciding whether they need analytics, an inbox or both
- Teams unsure whether ManyChat replaces a scheduler
Not the right fit if you
- Readers who want a single winner for everyone, which no honest comparison can give
- Anyone looking for ratings or user reviews, which this page does not include
Questions people ask
What is the best free social media scheduler?
Buffer, Metricool and Publer have free forever plans with limits on posts, channels or brands, and they are the safest free picks for the long term. Schedulely is free during early access with every built feature included, but paid plans will start later. Hootsuite, Later and Sprout Social have trials rather than free plans.
What is the best social media scheduler for agencies?
Sprout Social and Hootsuite suit agencies that need deep reporting and can pay per seat or per user. Metricool suits agencies with many small brands on a budget. Schedulely suits agencies whose clients mainly need Instagram care and publishing, with approval links, connect links and a calendar row per client, priced by channel.
Which social media scheduler has the best analytics?
Among the tools here, Sprout Social, Hootsuite and Metricool put the most weight on analytics and reporting, and Buffer and Later include analytics with history limits by plan. Schedulely does not offer Instagram analytics or insights, so it is not the right choice if reports are your priority.
Which scheduler posts to the most networks?
Schedulely posts to 14 networks: Instagram, Facebook Pages, X, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business, Bluesky, Mastodon, Tumblr, Telegram and Discord. Publer lists Facebook, Instagram, X (paid only), LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, YouTube, WordPress, TikTok, Telegram, Mastodon, Threads, Bluesky. Buffer lists Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), YouTube (Shorts), Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, Mastodon, Substack. Each tool has gaps, for example Schedulely does not post to Snapchat or Substack, so check your exact list of accounts against each tool before you sign up.
Is Schedulely the best social media scheduler?
Not for everyone. Schedulely is a strong fit for agencies and brands that handle Instagram comments and DMs and need client approvals, with pricing by channel. It has no analytics, no automatic comment to DM and no store apps yet, so other tools on this page are better for those needs.
Do I need ManyChat if I have a scheduler?
Only if you want automatic comment to DM or chat flows. ManyChat is a DM automation tool and does not schedule posts. Schedulely, Buffer and Later schedule posts, and Schedulely's inbox lets a person send a private reply to a comment, but none of that sends automatic DMs from a keyword comment.
