How to schedule Threads posts
Schedulely schedules Threads posts with text, a photo, a video or a carousel of 2 to 20 items, and publishes them at the time you choose. Threads connects through its own Meta sign in, separate from Instagram, and the same post can go to Threads, Instagram and X from one composer.
Each Threads post publishes on its own; chains of replies are not scheduled.

What can you schedule on Threads with Schedulely?
Schedulely publishes four kinds of Threads post: text on its own, a single photo, a single video, and a carousel of 2 to 20 photos and videos. Every post goes out at its scheduled time in the client's time zone, through Meta's official Threads API, with no reminder or manual step.
Threads keeps posts short. The text limit is 500 characters, and Meta counts each emoji by its byte length, so a post full of emoji reaches the limit sooner than you might expect. A post can include up to 5 links and one topic tag, which Threads limits to 1 per post, 1 to 50 characters.
Carousels are where Threads is more generous than Instagram. Threads takes 2 to 20 items in one carousel, while Instagram's API stops at 10 items. Schedulely follows each network's own number, so a 15 photo carousel works on Threads but needs trimming before it can also go to Instagram.
Meta fetches each file from Schedulely when the post publishes, and every accepted step is saved. If something goes wrong halfway, a retry reuses the work already done and never publishes the same post twice, which matters most for large carousels and videos.
| Post type | Official limit | In Schedulely |
|---|---|---|
| Text post | 500 characters; up to 5 links | Yes |
| Topic tag | 1 per post, 1 to 50 characters | Written in the text |
| Photo | 8 MB; JPEG/PNG; width 320 to 1440 px; aspect up to 10:1 | Yes |
| Video | Up to 5 minutes (300 s); 1 GB | Yes, one video per post |
| Carousel | 2 to 20 items | Yes, photos and videos mixed |
| Reply chain | Supported by Threads | Not scheduled; each post publishes on its own |
Limits come from Meta's official Threads API documentation, linked below.
How do you post the same idea to Threads, Instagram and X?
Write the post once, tick the Threads, Instagram and X accounts, and check the preview for each network. The main thing to watch is length: Threads allows 500 characters, Instagram far more and X far less, so shared text has to fit the shortest network you include.
Cross posting saves time, but each network has its own limits, and the shared post has to respect all of them.
- Text. Instagram allows 2,200 characters, Threads 500 characters and X a standard 280 characters (weighted; URLs count 23; CJK count 2). If your Instagram caption is long, make a separate, shorter post for Threads and X.
- Carousels. Threads takes up to 20 items, Instagram 10 and X 4 photos. Keep a shared carousel to the smallest number.
- Shape. Instagram feed photos are cropped to 4:5 in Schedulely, with the crop editable. Threads is relaxed about shape: 0.01:1 to 10:1, 9:16 recommended.
- Cost. After early access, X posting is a separate $10 a month add on; Threads and Instagram are included in every plan.
Threads connects with its own sign in, not through Instagram, so connect it as a separate account. A client can do this themselves from a connect link, without sharing a password.
How do you schedule a Threads post with Schedulely, step by step?
Connect the Threads profile through Meta's Threads sign in, start a new post, write the text, add a photo, a video or up to 20 carousel items, check the preview and pick a time. Schedulely publishes it at that minute, in the client's own time zone, and shows it on the calendar.
- Turn on Threads. In the workspace's network settings, switch Threads on if it is hidden.
- Connect the profile. Schedulely opens the Threads sign in page. The connection lasts and is renewed automatically, so you will rarely need to reconnect.
- Write the text. Keep it within 500 characters. Threads rewards a conversational opening, so a question or a plain opinion often works better than a headline.
- Add media. A photo, a video (length limit: Up to 5 minutes (300 s)), or a carousel of up to 20 items, from your computer, your phone, a Google Drive link or the client's library.
- Pick a time. The time follows the client's time zone.
The post waits in Upcoming. If it fails, it moves to Failed and 1 tap retries it. If the account signs out, posts wait safely and go out after you reconnect.
When is the best time to post on Threads?
Both studies point to weekday mornings into midday. Buffer found Thursday at 09:00, Wednesday at 12:00 and Wednesday at 09:00 strongest, with evenings weakest. Hootsuite names Tuesday at 08:00 as the best slot. Threads is a younger network with fewer studies, so treat these as a first guess and test.
Both studies report times in the audience's local time.
- Buffer looked at about 2.5 million Threads posts. Wednesday, Thursday and Tuesday were the best days, with Saturday worst. Weekday mornings from 06:00 to 11:00 did best, and evenings from 18:00 to 23:00 were the weakest stretch.
- Hootsuite, working with Critical Truth, names Tuesday at 08:00 as the best time, with a slot for each day: Monday 09:00, Wednesday 12:00, Thursday 09:00, Friday 14:00, Saturday 12:00 and Sunday 13:00.
Unlike Instagram or TikTok, these two studies broadly agree, which makes a morning slot a reasonable default. Threads also works as a quick follow on to an Instagram post: a Reel at 09:00 and a Threads post with the story behind it a little later. Schedulely has no Threads analytics, so compare results in the Threads app.
What can't Schedulely do on Threads yet?
Schedulely publishes each Threads post on its own, so it does not schedule chains of replies. Threads replies and mentions are not in the inbox, which works with Instagram only, and there are no Threads analytics. Polls and GIFs are not available, and first comment scheduling does not exist on any network.
Here is the list for Threads.
- Reply chains. Threads lets people reply to their own post to build a chain. Schedulely posts single Threads posts only. If you want a chain, schedule the opening post and add the replies in Threads, or write it as an X thread, which Schedulely does support.
- Inbox. Comments, DMs and mentions are handled for Instagram only.
- Analytics. No Threads views or engagement reports.
- Polls and GIFs. Threads post types include: Text, image, video, carousel, replies (threads); GIF on text posts. Schedulely publishes text, photos, videos and carousels.
- First comment. Not available.
What Threads in Schedulely does well is the routine work: carousels of up to 20 items, one calendar with a row per client, approval links so a client can approve a post with a swipe, and the same idea going to Threads, Instagram and X from one composer.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
A good fit if you
- Instagram brands that want a Threads post alongside each Reel or carousel
- Agencies adding Threads to the same calendar and approvals as other networks
- People who post photo carousels of more than 10 items
Not the right fit if you
- Anyone who needs chains of replies on Threads scheduled
- Teams that want Threads replies or analytics inside the scheduler
Questions people ask
Can I schedule Threads posts for free?
Yes. Schedulely is free during early access, and Threads posts with text, photos, videos and carousels are included. When plans start, a Threads profile counts as one channel, and plans are priced by channel, never by seat. Starter will be $9 a month for up to 3 channels, and you will be told before any charge.
Does Schedulely post to Threads automatically?
Yes. At the scheduled time, Schedulely publishes the post through Meta's official Threads API, with no reminder and no need to open the app. If a post fails, it appears in Failed straight away and 1 tap retries it, reusing what was already uploaded so nothing posts twice.
How many photos can I put in a Threads carousel with Schedulely?
From 2 to 20 photos and videos, mixed in one carousel, which matches Meta's Threads limit of 2 to 20. That is twice what Instagram's API allows, so if you post the same carousel to Instagram too, keep it to 10 items or make a separate Instagram version.
Do I need to connect Threads separately from Instagram?
Yes. Threads uses its own Meta sign in, so it connects as a separate account, even if the profile shares a name with an Instagram account. Once connected, the same post can go to both from one composer. A client can connect their Threads profile from a connect link without sharing a password.
Can Schedulely schedule a chain of Threads replies?
No. Schedulely publishes each Threads post on its own and does not build reply chains. You can schedule the opening post and add replies in Threads afterwards. If a long idea suits a chain, Schedulely can schedule it as an X thread, where each part posts in order as a reply.
How long can a Threads post be?
Threads allows 500 characters per post, with up to 5 links and one topic tag. Meta counts emoji by their byte length, so emoji use up the limit faster than letters. For video, the length limit is Up to 5 minutes (300 s) and the file size limit is 1 GB.
