How to schedule Bluesky posts

Bluesky posts are short. The limit is 300 graphemes (3,000 bytes), which is far less room than Facebook or LinkedIn give you, so a caption written for Instagram usually needs its own Bluesky version. Schedulely checks the length in the composer and tells you how far over you are, rather than cutting your words off at publish time.

Photos are uploaded to Bluesky when the post goes out. Bluesky caps each image at 2 MB (2,000,000 bytes), and Schedulely makes a large photo smaller automatically so it fits, which saves you resizing every image by hand.

Each post is given its own record key before the first attempt. If the connection drops after Bluesky accepted the post, a retry recognises that it is already there instead of posting a second copy. That matters on a network where a duplicate post looks careless to followers who see everything in order.

Buffer analysed over 3 million Bluesky posts and found Saturday and Sunday the strongest days, with Saturday at 17:00 and 18:00 and Sunday at 09:00 near the top, and weekday evenings from 18:00 to 21:00 also good. In Buffer's data, weekday late mornings from 10:00 to 13:00 were the weakest. Buffer itself says to take the numbers as guidance, not gospel.

SocialPilot looked at 5,000 connected accounts and more than 1 million posts and found the opposite pattern: weekdays beat weekends, with 09:00 to 11:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 working well and the night from 00:00 to 07:00 quiet.

The honest reading is that Bluesky audiences differ a lot. A tech audience and an art audience keep different hours. Schedule a few weeks of posts across both patterns, in your audience's time zone, and keep the slots that get replies.

Alt text matters on Bluesky, where many people rely on screen readers and the community notices missing descriptions. Schedulely sends photos without alt text at the moment. If accessibility is central to your account, add alt text in the app or describe the image in the post itself until this changes.

Schedulely also signs in through Bluesky's main service at bsky.social, so an account hosted on a separate, self hosted server may not connect. Replies and mentions are not pulled into the Schedulely inbox, which works with Instagram only. Language is set to English on every post.
